Steve Powell Park began with the vision of John and Helen Taber who wished to share 22 acres of serene, wildlife-rich land with the community. Their daughters, Jeannie and Lynn, made this vision a reality by selling the land to the Bitter Root Land Trust in 2012. The land, now managed as a public park by the City of Hamilton, is home to wetlands, ponds, old Ponderosa Pines, and Bitterroot River frontage. The park is dedicated to Steve Powell, the late co-founder of the Bitter Root Land Trust. Steve’s love for his community and the natural landscapes of the Bitterroot Valley led him to create BRLT and leave a lasting legacy of open spaces, working agriculture, and wildlife habitat.
Steve was a beloved friend, mentor, musician, husband, father and son. It is a great honor to dedicate this beautiful, public wildland park to him.
